Chattanooga Film Festival 2016: Honey Buddies (Buddymoon)

Honey Buddies (Buddymoon)
(2016)
Chattanooga Film Festival 2016

Back at the beginning of April, I was able to go to the Chattanooga Film Festival with Mass Listeria (thanks again, Daniel and Tim, for bringing me on board...puns and all).  For four days, the Majestic Theater in Chattanooga was filled with movie lovers of all shapes and sizes.  Comedy, horror, drama, documentaries, short films, animated films, independent films...the festival had movies for everyone, regardless of tastes.  For the last several posts, I have been posting my reviews of the movies that I saw there (in the order that I saw them).  Next up (the final review in my coverage of the Chattanooga Film Festival 2016) - Honey Buddies (Buddymoon).

I've been providing the description of the films provided in the Chattanooga Film Festival program and trailers via YouTube, when available.  The descriptions and the trailers of the movies might let you know what they are about, but if you want to know what I thought of them...well, you are just going to have to give the podcast a listen.

The CFF program description for Honey Buddies (Buddymoon) was:  When David (David Giuntoli; Grimm, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi) is left by his fiance just days before the wedding, Flula (Flula Borg; Pitch Perfect 2), his relentlessly upbeat best man, insists they go on David's previously planned honeymoon:  a seven-day backpacking trip through the mountains of Oregon.  On the trail they cross paths with a conspiracy theorist, a friendly backpacker and a bloodthirsty predator as the unrelenting trek tests their friendship and their lives.

The CFF program description for American Genre Film Archive presents:  Don't Panic was:  In the late '80s, Mexican movie studios assaulted the teen terror genre.  The result was a slasher buffet of shrieking youths, Latino superstition, and bloodthirsty maniacs.  But no sub-border horror-war scored like Don't Panic, an English-language Freddy-friendly murder epic that runs completely off the rails of human logic.

Redneck Night with Joe Bob Briggs was a live show and not a movie, but description of the event in the CFF program was:  For one night and one night only, internationally acclaimed drive-in movie critic Joe Bob Briggs explains how rednecks saved the movie industry.  Using scenes from the greatest redneck performances in history, he celebrates the triumph of his people.  Last year at CFF, Joe Bob got a standing ovation for his quick-and-dirty history of the South in film, so reserve early.  He promises to omit the Ned Beatty rape scene this time.

Since it was a live show, there wasn't a trailer.  But, here is a video of an interview with Joe Bob Briggs from the CFF.

Marble City Comicon 2014

A couple of years ago, I went to Marble City Comicon with New Monster Project.  New Monster put out a video of the con, but these interviews didn't quite fit with the overall feel.  So, after far, far, far too long of a delay...I finally got around to putting together my interviews with Ricou Browning (Creature from the Black Lagoon), George Perez (comic artist), and C. Martin Croker (animator and voice actor).

I have had the footage for quite some time now and I had wanted to put out my interviews ever since the con, but other projects and other life events kept getting in the way of editing together my interviews.  Plus, after a certain amount of time had passed, they didn't really seem quite as relevant.  But then, something happened that made me want to share my experiences.

Yesterday, I heard that C. Martin Croker had passed away.  With all of the "big name celebrities" that have passed away recently, and with all of the other terrible things in the world that are making headlines, I can understand why there hasn't been a lot of coverage.  But, unlike all of the other celebrities that have passed away  over the passed year, I was actually able to meet C. Martin Croker.  While each loss of talent has been incredibly saddening (especially the passing of Gene Wilder), the loss of C. Martin hit me a little differently.  It was more personal.  I only met him once and only for about 10 minutes, but that experience had a lasting impression on me!  During those 10 minutes, he was not only willing to talk with me, but welcomed the opportunity to share stories and advice with someone who appreciated his somewhat offbeat sense of humor.  He had an amazing talent for animation and comedic timing.  The shows that he worked on (most notably Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and Aqua Teen Hunger Force) had a tremendous impact on my sense of humor and creativity and helped to shape me into who I am today.  I cannot even begin to explain how much of an honor it was to be able to meet C. Martin Croker, or how bummed I am that he is gone.  While my questions to him certainly are not groundbreaking, I wanted to honor C. Martin Croker by sharing what little time I was able to spend talking to him.  Rest in peace, C. Martin Croker.  You will always be missed, but never forgotten.
