Chattanooga Film Festival 2017: Feeding Time

Once again, I was able to return to the Chattanooga Film Festival with Mass Listeria!  I love cinema in all of its forms, so the Chattanooga Film Festival is one of my favorite times of year because I spend four days being surrounded by movies and fellow film lovers!  To get a sense of why I love the Chattanooga Film Festival so much, read my post from the start of my coverage of the 2016 Chattanooga Film Festival (found here)...every word of it still holds true!

We already did an overview episode on Mass Listeria (found at masslisteriapodcast.com), but for the next several episodes of The Gargyle Podcast, I'll be providing reviews of each of the films that I saw individually.  Up next in my coverage of the 2017 Chattanooga Film Festival is:  Feeding Time

The CFF program description for Dave Made a Maze was:

The filmmakers of Dave Made a Maze describe it as The Goonies meets Gilliam meets Gondry.  And we'd have to agree.  Dave Made a Maze is funny, fantastical and carries with it a deep-rooted message about the importance of imagination and creativity.  From its largely cardboard DIY esthetic to its also cardboard, bloodthirsty Minotaur, this is one of those films we wanted to watch again immediately after finishing it.  Out of pure frustration, Dave, an artist who has yet to complete anything significant in his career, builds a fort in his living room, only to wind up trapped by the pitfalls, booby traps, and critters of his own creation.  Ignoring his warnings, Dave's girlfriend Annie leads a band of oddball explorers on a rescue mission.  Once inside, they find themselves trapped in an ever-changing supernatural world, threatened by booby traps and pursued by the aforementioned Minotaur.  We loved this film so much we chose it as our opening-night feature, to be shown in all its glory in the Tennessee Aquarium's IMAX Theater.

The Monster Pod - From Beyond

What do you get when you turn a 7 page H. P. Lovecraft story into an 86 minute movie??  You get From Beyond, an insane slice of 1986 sci-fi horror!!  Starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, the second feature length film from Stuart Gordon might not be as well-known in the mainstream as Re-Animator, but that doesn't mean that it is any less fun to watch in all of horror ridiculousness!!

As usual, it should be noted that this is more of an in-depth discussion of the film and not necessarily just a "review."  There are some major spoilers throughout the second section of the podcast.  So, if you have not yet seen From Beyond, go watch it first and then come back to get our take on it!

The Monster Pod - Trollhunter

If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise.  If you go down to the woods today, you'd better go in disguise!  For every troll that ever there was will gather for certain, because today's the day the trolls have their picnic - (modification of "Teddy Bear's Picnic" by Anne Murray)


Ok...so, there aren't any picnics.  But, that isn't entirely too far off and I think that it actually kinda works for describing Trollhunter, a Norwegian found-footage movie about a group of college kids that think they are filming a documentary about bear attacks, but end up chasing a much different, and much more threatening, monster.

As usual, it should be noted that this is more of an in-depth discussion of the film and not necessarily just a "review."  There are some major spoilers throughout the second section of the podcast.  So, if you have not yet seen Trollhunter, go watch it first and then come back to get our take on it!
