Prism Pop Up Gallery

The Prism Pop Up Gallery is a one-night art show featuring local artists exhibiting work that is representative of the colors of the rainbow, refracted by prisms (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet).  Prism Pop Up Gallery also included live painting by local artist Susan Creswell and Tony Marz!  There was some amazing art by artist who clearly have a passion for creating!  Huge thanks and kudos to director, Lizi Campbell for putting together such a great show of awesome art!!  And, of course, a tremendous thanks to all of the artists (listed below) for their talent, creativity, and passion for art!!

Prism Pop Up Gallery is a one day juried event showing the varieties of color in art! By collecting vibrant and striking pieces from talented artists, the gallery hopes to create an immersive experience for artists and patrons alike. All artwork will be organized by color, such that the patrons experience all of the Roy G. Biv [Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Indigo, Violet] spectrum while viewing the large selection of artist in Chattanooga!

10% of the sale of the tickets goes to Hart Gallery TN, a nonprofit organization that makes art making and selling accessible to the homeless and other nontraditional artist.  Read more about Hart Gallery's non-profit work at www.HartGalleryTN.com

100% of the proceeds of the sale of the art will be paid directly to the artist!

This is an excellent opportunity to engage with the Chattanooga art community and support local artists!

Chattanooga Film Festival 2017: 24x36 - A Movie about Movie Posters

Once again, I was able to return to the Chattanooga Film Festival with Mass Listeria!  I love cinema in all of its forms, so the Chattanooga Film Festival is one of my favorite times of year because I spend four days being surrounded by movies and fellow film lovers!  To get a sense of why I love the Chattanooga Film Festival so much, read my post from the start of my coverage of the 2016 Chattanooga Film Festival (found here)...every word of it still holds true!

We already did an overview episode on Mass Listeria (found at masslisteriapodcast.com), but for the next several episodes of The Gargyle Podcast, I'll be providing reviews of each of the films that I saw individually.  Up next in my coverage of the 2017 Chattanooga Film Festival is:  24x36 - A Movie about Movie Posters




I'll be providing the description of the films provided in the Chattanooga Film Festival program and trailers via YouTube, when available.  The descriptions and trailers of the movies might let you know what they are about, but if you want to know what I thought of them...well, you are just going to have to give the podcast a listen.

The CFF program description for 24x36 - A Movie about Movie Posters was:

Among our most prized possessions in the CFF office is a limited edition poster of one of our all-time favorite films, Repo Man.  That alone could explain why we wanted to show this documentary that explores the birth, death and resurrection of illustrated movie poster art.  But there's a better reason:  24x36 is as entertaining as it is informative, the hallmarks of any good documentary.  Through interviews with a number of key art personalities from the last four decades, 24x36 aims to answer the question:  What happened to the illustrated movie poster?  Where did it disappear to, and why?  In the mid 2000s, filling the void left behind by Hollywood's abandonment of illustrated movie posters, independent artists and galleries began selling limited-edition, screen-printed posters, a movement that quickly exploded into a booming industry with prints selling out online in seconds, inspiring Hollywood studios to take notice of illustration in movie posters once more.

Steampunk Expo and Gothic Con 2016

The Missus and I had a chance to go to the Steampunk Expo and Gothic Con 2016 at the Chattanooga Choo Choo and we had an absolute blast!!  We were able to meet some amazing vendors, see some awesome art and creations, and had an all-around great time!!  We also had a chance to talk to some of the vendors to get to know a little bit more about what steampunk reaaaally is.

So if you love steampunk, or are just curious and want to know more about it, sit back and enjoy!!  And if anything in the video catches your fancy, get out there and support the arts and the artists!!

Sci-Fighters: Lazy vs. Intentional Geek

It's the summer!  Which means that it's time to play catch-up on all of our geeky interests:  watching movies, drawing comics, creating videos and podcasts, and so on!  The summer also means a lot of sleeping in, wasting time watching mindless tv, and doing a whole lot of nothing.  In tonight's episode of Sci-Fighters, we talk about how we've spent our summer so far, how we'd like to be spending our summer, and whether engaging in our geeky interests is an act of laziness or intentional acts of geekery!

J.R. Mounts. Everything.

I first met JR Mounts a couple years ago at Marble City Comic Con.  He had a pickle mannequin in a trench coat and a fedora (the mannequin...not JR) and I was intrigued...so I had to talk to him.  Rather than just trying to get me to buy something from him, JR actually talked about art, puns, and the creative process.  Even though I had never met him, JR was treating me like I was one of his biggest fans.  That is one of the things that sets JR apart from so many other vendors that I have met...when people stop by his booth, he is genuine and not just treating the person like another potential sale.  And that is one of the things that makes his books so great - they have that same genuine personality and humor.

Since that first meeting, JR and I have grown to become friends and have gotten together a couple times to work on various projects.  The first time, he joined Daniel, Tim, Jeremy, and myself on Mass Listeria as we discussed our top 5 influences (listen to that episode here).  The next time we got together, we recorded an episode of Saturday Morning Cereal (listen to that here) and then worked on some videos highlighting the artistic process and the ups and downs of what it means to be an artist.  We also got a sneak peak at his newest project, "Stuck in My Head" and were one of the first media outlets to see some of the completed art!  We also recorded a..."crappy"...commercial.  We had a lot of fun making the videos, so hopefully you have just as much fun watching them.
